EKCCF Introduces the BACK Initiative

EKCCF is done waiting for change. That’s why we’re launching the Boron Anchor for Community Knowledge (BACK) Initiative, a transformative program designed to tackle Boron’s most urgent challenges head-on.

The BACK Initiative pairs Universal Basic Income (UBI) with Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) to provide immediate relief and long-term economic opportunities. Here’s how it works:

  • UBI Component: Monthly cash assistance to stabilize struggling families.

  • IDA Component: Matched savings accounts to help residents invest in homeownership, small businesses, or education.

The BACK Initiative is the first step toward a future where Boron residents no longer have to choose between basic needs and long-term goals.

What is Kitty Klippers?

Kitty Klippers is a low-cost spay and neuter program dedicated to reducing the population of stray and abandoned cats in East Kern County. We provide accessible, affordable services for community cats and owned pets to promote responsible pet care and prevent overpopulation.

Who is eligible for the program?

Our spay/neuter program is open to residents of East Kern County, including pet owners, those caring for community cats, and individuals rescuing stray or feral cats. We prioritize low-income pet owners and community cat caregivers but welcome all responsible pet owners to participate.

How much does it cost?

We strive to keep services affordable through sponsorships and donations. Our pricing varies based on whether the cat is feral, a community cat, or an owned cat:

✔️ $50 for each owned cat shouldered by the owner

✔️ $50 for each feral or community cat compensated by donations, sponsorships, and grants

Contact us for current pricing, available subsidies, or financial assistance options.

What does the spay/neuter package include?

Each package typically includes:

✔️ Spay or neuter surgery

✔️ Rabies vaccination (if applicable)

✔️ Ear tipping for feral/community cats (to indicate they’ve been fixed)

Are there additional services available?

Yes! We offer the following add-on services for an additional fee:

✔️ Microchipping

✔️ Flea treatment

✔️ Additional vaccinations (FVRCP, FeLV, etc.)

These services can be requested at the time of booking.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Appointments are required and can be booked by contacting us directly. Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.

Do I need to bring anything for the appointment?

Yes. Cats must arrive in a secure carrier or humane trap. For feral cats, traps are required for safety. Instructions on how to prepare your cat for surgery will be provided upon booking.

Can I bring kittens?

Kittens must be at least 8 weeks old and weigh at least 2 pounds to qualify for surgery. If you have younger kittens, we can advise on care options until they are eligible.

Why is ear tipping required for feral/community cats?

Ear tipping is a universal sign that a cat has been spayed or neutered, preventing unnecessary trapping and reducing stress for the cat. It is a painless, minor procedure performed under anesthesia.

What if my cat is already pregnant?

We can still perform the procedure, but special considerations apply. Please inform us when scheduling so we can discuss the best approach for your cat’s health and well-being.
